001

I don't suppose anyone thought to ask where all the guests are going to sleep. Especially if more than one relative per student is coming.

[Warded to Tsunade]

If my grandparents come, can you dose me with small amounts of Euphoria Elixir while they're here?

There ought to be enough room for everyone. Hogwarts is very large, after all.

[identity profile] serpent-child.livejournal.com 2011-01-06 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not whether there's enough room. It's if there's enough beds, and where they're going to be when they have to sleep. Even if I give up my bed, my Gran shouldn't have to sleep in the Slytherin boys' dorms.

[identity profile] slug-healer.livejournal.com 2011-01-07 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
Well, if worse comes to worst, your Gran could stay with me and my dad can stay with you?

Provided that Professor Dumbledore hasn't already made arrangements for the parents already.

[identity profile] serpent-child.livejournal.com 2011-01-08 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
I suppose. But I'd still have two grandfathers to accommodate if they all come.

[identity profile] dofaye.livejournal.com 2011-01-07 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sure that the staff figured all of that out beforehand. Surely Professor Dumbledore hasn't forgotten something as basic as sleeping areas.

[identity profile] serpent-child.livejournal.com 2011-01-08 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I don't know. He forgot to give students a choice in whether they wanted visitors or not. I don't mind my grandparents coming here...but some people might not have good relationships with their family.

[identity profile] dofaye.livejournal.com 2011-01-08 05:55 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think it's particularly fair to exclude people for that reason, though.

[identity profile] serpent-child.livejournal.com 2011-01-08 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
How is it unfair? Everyone would have the choice to invite their family members.

[identity profile] dofaye.livejournal.com 2011-01-09 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
And if a child neglected to invite a parent that wished to come?

[identity profile] serpent-child.livejournal.com 2011-01-09 08:06 am (UTC)(link)
It should be the child's choice. What if the child didn't want to invite the parent because the parent was emotionally and verbally abusive? What if the parent was prone to being rude to people and the child didn't want to be embarrassed? Or what if the child was friends with people the parent wouldn't approve of because of their blood status?

[identity profile] dofaye.livejournal.com 2011-01-09 04:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I think that's an individual exception to be worked out between a student and the staff. For the majority of students, this setup is easier.

[identity profile] serpent-child.livejournal.com 2011-01-10 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
But it's hard to make that exception if the staff are going to send out invitations before talking about it to the students first.

[identity profile] dofaye.livejournal.com 2011-01-10 07:53 am (UTC)(link)
Still, it would be best to take your complaint up with Professor Dumbledore.

[identity profile] serpent-child.livejournal.com 2011-01-11 06:20 am (UTC)(link)
I suppose that would be the best way to come up with some sort of compromise.

I get along well enough with my grandparents, but if someone has a good reason to not want their parents or legal guardians here, they shouldn't be forced to deal with it.

[identity profile] dofaye.livejournal.com 2011-01-11 08:07 am (UTC)(link)
I suppose I just have too much confidence in families' ability to be decent to one another.

[identity profile] serpent-child.livejournal.com 2011-01-12 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
I guess. But there's probably at least a few people here at Hogwarts in one or more of those situations I mentioned.

[identity profile] dreadof.livejournal.com 2011-01-06 07:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty sure that there must be some rooms where they'll stay.

[identity profile] serpent-child.livejournal.com 2011-01-06 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty sure you're putting more faith into the organization of this stupid idea than it deserves.

[identity profile] dreadof.livejournal.com 2011-01-06 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
[ouch, harsh. But he dismisses it.]

Oh come on, it's not like he wouldn't think about this ahead of time.

[identity profile] serpent-child.livejournal.com 2011-01-07 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
[Harsh comes pretty naturally to Orochimaru, especially if he's annoyed.]

Even brilliant wizards can come up with bad ideas.

[identity profile] dreadof.livejournal.com 2011-01-07 02:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Well it always happens to everyone...but how can someone forget something like beds? I mean, it's not like they're going to sleep standing up.

[identity profile] serpent-child.livejournal.com 2011-01-08 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
If he could forget to ask about if students wanted to have visitors, I'm sure it's possible to forget about beds.

[identity profile] dreadof.livejournal.com 2011-01-08 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I don't know, he'll probably think something out, like sending them to Hogsmeade or just covering the Great Hall with beds.

[identity profile] serpent-child.livejournal.com 2011-01-08 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I suppose. I think it could have been planned better.

[identity profile] italianscanspar.livejournal.com 2011-01-06 07:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Eh, who knows? S'Hogwarts, innit? I'm sure they got someplace for the folks.

[identity profile] serpent-child.livejournal.com 2011-01-06 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sure they have some place. I'm just worried that place is going to be the floor of the Great Hall.

[identity profile] italianscanspar.livejournal.com 2011-01-06 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Aw, I doubt it! Hey, even if it does end up bein' the floor, I'm sure they'll make it cushy and posh for the occasion.

[identity profile] serpent-child.livejournal.com 2011-01-07 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
I don't want my grandparents sleeping on the floor at all. They're old and deserve better than that.

[He doesn't want them to come, period. But he's starting to learn about keeping up appearances.]

[identity profile] italianscanspar.livejournal.com 2011-01-07 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
I see what you mean. I wouldn't want mine on the floor too...

[[ Oh, if only Firo knew. ]]

Did ya ask any of the teachers?

[identity profile] serpent-child.livejournal.com 2011-01-07 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
I'll have to check. But some of them seemed surprised by Professor Dumbledore's announcement, too.

[identity profile] italianscanspar.livejournal.com 2011-01-07 10:55 am (UTC)(link)
...Huh. Jeez, now you've gotten me curious...

Warded to Orochimaru

[identity profile] slug-healer.livejournal.com 2011-01-07 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
Why?

By the way, both of my parents are coming. I'm pretty sure they would like the chance to see your grandparents, so there's that for possible distraction.

Warded - Tsunade/Orochimaru only

[identity profile] serpent-child.livejournal.com 2011-01-07 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
Because I'm annoyed that Professor Dumbledore got it into his head that every single person here is going to want the same thing and sent out invitations without asking who wanted visitors. I don't want them to think I'm mad at them, and I trust your potion making skills over mine.

That would be good. I don't know if all three of them are going to come or not yet. But my grandfather will appreciate having people he can speak to in his first language and he's the one who said he was coming for sure.

Re: Warded - Tsunade/Orochimaru only

[identity profile] slug-healer.livejournal.com 2011-01-07 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
I would agree with you, on that. It is rather presumptive.

All right, I can make you some for the weekend. Do you want to meet me in the Great Hall after dinner tonight?

Also-- minor change of plans -- Dad's coming, Mom's not, 'cause of Nawaki.

[She was looking forward to seeing the little bugger again, too.]

Re: Warded - Tsunade/Orochimaru only

[identity profile] serpent-child.livejournal.com 2011-01-07 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
It's also going to get annoying if any of the teachers decide to give homework. A day visit would have been better.

Okay. Thank you, Tsunade.

Re: Warded - Tsunade/Orochimaru only

[identity profile] slug-healer.livejournal.com 2011-01-07 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
You're welcome.

Try looking at it this way -- if there is homework, no-one can argue if we need to go to the library to study (and get a break).

Re: Warded - Tsunade/Orochimaru only

[identity profile] serpent-child.livejournal.com 2011-01-08 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
That's true. I don't get in trouble in class, so I'm not worried about what the teachers might have to say to my grandparents. "He's very quiet". Like that would be surprising.

[identity profile] serpent-child.livejournal.com 2011-01-08 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
That would make sense. Do you know for sure if that's where they're staying? Or are you guessing?

[identity profile] norgesangen.livejournal.com 2011-01-08 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
Ah. No, I just reckon.

That's a lot of people to cast a hovering charm on.

He probably could. But it would be better if there were beds.

[identity profile] slug-healer.livejournal.com 2011-01-10 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
That is a rather entertaining image to come to mind.
